How do I set up multiple mirrors for distributing updates on my network? (5.x)
Issue
- Set up more than one update mirror to distribute updates across a large network
Details
The method covered in this article involves creating multiple update mirrors. The Mirror feature is used to create a local update server so that client workstations will download virus signature updates from a local Mirror server on the network instead of downloading them directly from ESET’s servers on the Internet. This method can help to save Internet bandwidth and to minimize network traffic, since only the mirror server connects to the Internet for updates rather than hundreds of client machines.
The other method, replication, is used in large networks where multiple ESET Remote Administrator Servers are installed (for example, in a company with several branches).
Solution
Instructions for an alternate method of distributing updates to client workstations over large networks, “Replication”, can be found here.
-
Install ESET Remote Administrator on each machine that will be used as an update mirror. For step-by-step instructions, see the following Knowledgebase article:
To configure a client workstation to serve as an update mirror, see the following Knowledgebase article:
- Configure desired client workstations to point to a given update mirror:
-
Point each update mirror to a single ESET Remote Administrator Console:|
-
In the ESET Remote Administrator Console, click Tools → Server Options.
-
Click the Updates tab.
-
Select <User defined update server> from the Update server drop-down menu and enter in the address of the ESET Remote Administrator Server you'd like this Console to point at, in the following format:
http://servername:2221/
where servername is replaced by the name/IP address of the server you are pointing to.
-
Click OK.
- Repeat steps 1-4 on each machine that you've configured to act as an update mirror.
-
In the ESET Remote Administrator Console, click Tools → Server Options.
