Customer Advisory
Details
When ESET announced its generational upgrade from ESET Remote Administrator 6 to ESET Security Management Center 7, several new features and infrastructure changes were included. One important difference between ERA 6 and ESMC 7 is that the Proxy component is not used in ESMC 7. While this made requirements for deployment and management easier, the upgraded Agent would not be able to communicate via the Proxy. For this reason, ESET chose not to enable the Components Upgrade task immediately after the release of ESMC 7 (manual upgrades were still possible).
On November 15, 2018, ESET released an updated version of ESMC 7 that included several fixes and improvements. In release 7.0.72.0, the Components Upgrade task was enabled. To help with the upgrade, we have prepared detailed descriptions of scenarios for ERA 6 users wanting to use this task to upgrade their infrastructure to ESMC 7. The upgrade task is supported on ERA 6.3 and later.

Notes
- Despite the automated upgrade task, it is necessary to update the Proxy component with a replacement proxy separately, as described in the Resources above.
- Do not update the Agents before the ESMC Server is updated. ESMC Agents 7 use a new communication protocol and are not able to connect to ERA Server 6.
Affected programs
- ESET Remote Administrator 6.3 and later
- ESET Security Management Center 7.x
